Todos Santos – Guatemala
In the breathtaking highlands of the San Martín Cuchumatánes, a sisterhood of 276 resilient women farmers is transforming their future—one coffee cherry at a time.
Known as Mujeres Luchando por un Mejor Futuro (“Women Fighting for a Better Future”), this collective formed in response to a growing challenge: with many men leaving to work in the U.S., women were left to raise families, run farms, and provide for their communities—alone.
A decade ago, they decided to unite. What began with a few determined leaders quickly grew into a thriving network of over 200 women, working together to share knowledge, resources, and support.
These women are champions of change—driven by education, innovation, and deep-rooted community values. They collaborate on every aspect of cultivation and processing, lifting one another up with accountability, creativity, and care.
Their smallholder farms rest on misty mountain slopes between 1,700–2,100 meters above sea level. The cool, cloud-covered climate slows the ripening of cherries, resulting in a beautifully developed coffee, harvested from mid-February through early May.
This coffee is more than a cup—it’s a story of resilience, unity, and a better future being brewed by hand, every day.
